Learning Beyond The Classroom

Our Village

We use our locality to support our learning as much as possible.  This includes our fantastic school grounds and the wider village.

Within the village we are lucky to have the local church St Hybalds which we utilise to celebrte Christian festivals and take part in worship.

We work closely with Gander Farm and Borril's Farms in order to develop the children's geography, history and science skills.

There are a number of local industies in our village who we partner with in order to extend our children's understanding of the local area including Techcrete, Hibaldstow Skydive, Co-op and Church Street Stores.

Educational Visits

Where appropriate and relevant, we take our pupils to engage in first hand experiences.  We are lucky have two 17 seater mini buses within our Trust and so we fully utiilise them to explore our surroundings.

Recently, we have been to the Humber Bridge, Leicester Space Centre, Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Lincoln Castle and many more.

We also work with the local secondary schools for various opportunities:

  • working with their science team in the labroratories
  • taking part in drama and theatre activities
  • musical performances

Residentials

Year 6

Every year we try to run a residential visit to London for our Year 6 pupils, this visit is entirely optional but is a great cultural experience.  We aim to visit a selection of museums, go to see a show and take in the vibrant life of central London. With the current national situation, this visit is under review for the next academic year.

Dobroyd

Most years we also offer a weekend residential for pupils in lower KS2 to take part in outdoor and adventurous visits at Dobroyd Castle, including activities such as zip wire.  It's a fantastic weekend and something the children talk about for a very long time afterwards.
