The importance of homework

Hib (16)

Learning at home is an essential part of good education.  Regular homework is important, since it gives children the opportunity to practise at home the tasks done in class, and helps them further develop skills and attitudes they need for successful lifelong learning.  It also helps children to become confident and independent in their learning, and supports the habits of enquiry and investigation.

We believe the focus of homework should be on the important skills of literacy and numeracy and support learning across the curriculum.  Regular reading at home, especially reading with parents or carers is essential.  We encourage all children to read to an adult at least four times a week to earn a place in the Bookworm Assembly, gain a certificate and have a chance of winning a book prize. As the children move through school, other tasks such as finding out and preparing information is given, which will ease the transfer to secondary schools.

Your child will bring home a homework booklet each week to be completed, signed and returned to school the following week. Your support is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions about how to best support your child, or methods used in school, don't hesitate to talk to your child's teacher.

To access your child's homework, please visit our Learning Platform. Please contact the schools admin office to request a parent password your password will be sent home with child.
